Colm Webb clarifies Kits Yacht Clubs proposal

At (an earlier meeting) the KYC executive discussed KYC taking over the FCYC Thursday night series for Spring and Fall.

Basically all the skippers can join KYC, and we provide all racing included in the cost of membership. There are other races open to the skippers also.

Membership is $300 + GST for the 2018 season, Membership is valid from March 1st 2018 to the end of February 2019.

We need strong support from the skippers and we will commit to taking this on. We have a very experienced Race Officer on Board and Mark Setters also.

Anyone who is interested in joining KYC can give me a call on 778 871 0278.

Best regards,

Colm

The Martin242 Fleet One Executive reviewed this proposal and have objections.

There is no option for drop-in racing.  Given the limited launching facilities at Kits, Thursday evenings would be a zoo with boats trying to launch for both the proposed keelboat and dinghy courses.

It is unclear how many races are being offered for $300 per season. While access to the delightful Kits Yacht club setting can, at times, be priceless, there are no facilities to tie up and enjoy the club after racing and parking is always difficult during the summer months.

If Kits Yacht Club wants more members, this should be separated from the costs of sailing events or programmes.  Other Yacht Clubs (e.g. Royal Van) do not ask sailors to join the Club in order to participate in race events.

The M242 Exec respects KYC for taking on the Spring and Fall racing series but thinks that they need to come up with a different approach.
