M242 North Americans!

California Yacht Club July 10-12, 2026

Thank you to everyone who participated in our NA this year.  We were very lucky to have breeze when we were forecasted to have little to none earlier in the week.  Our R/C volunteers on the
Charles Hathaway and Mark Set Boats did a fabulous job of keeping the courses square and just the right length.  Steve Kuritz and Gordy Palmer, our PRO’s made excellent calls on course length and when to move our weather mark, all while keeping us from running into the Star boats.

We wouldn’t have gotten this regatta to this level without my Co-Chair Marylyn Hoeneymeyer and my wife, Miriam Moses who put together the R/C team.  Many thanks!

We deeply appreciate the donations from MG Marine, Ullman for the sail given out for the Friday night challenge. Richard Mainland was rewarded with the new Jib when the team he loaned Off The Wagon to won the Blind Folded Knot Tying Challenge. Sometimes a good deed isn’t punished!  Thank you to Tim Clarke and Vela La for lending us the Vakaros units for the R/C.  Personally I really liked starting the Vakaros way.

CYC really showed up strong for this event and I’d like to recognize Dalia Ayoub, for making sure the food was delicious and ready on time as well as setting up the Saturday night party, and Chase Young, and Braedon Baum for overseeing the equipment and slips for everyone for the weekend.  Wasn’t Absolute 60’s a fun band!

Shirts:  Yes, you can still buy a shirt until 7/23..  They made this store front for us here.

I think my favorite quote about the moderately light and shifty racing conditions was from Mike George “The only shift that counted was the last one!”  The course was very challenging and the teams were sharp and well matched. Six out of the thirteen boats won at least one race.

Congratulations to:

  • Trolly Car for First Place

  • Sandbox for Second Place

  • Back In Black for Third Place

  • All In for Fourth Place

  • Velerito for Fifth Place

The Long Haul award went to Philip Cragg for driving Back in Black down from Vancouver.

Thank you Kylie Lausten for taking some great sharable pictures from the Pin Boat on Friday:  https://adobe.ly/44YJlDO
